Cozy Room Shoes

Merry Christmas! It's Christmas day. I'm on a couch in living room with Chester and updating this blog. My boyfriend Derek is working today from 12pm to 12am tonight. So we had a little Christmas morning together and changed the presents and had a nice breakfast.
He has to work today, but he was invited to Christmas dinner from Delta Hotel during his break. He was saying that he was so exited for the dinner but he has to go alone. So I asked if I could go if I pay myself. Off course, yes! we were able to go together and had a wonderful Christmas dinner!! Now I'm home and I'm still stuffed even though it's been a while since dinner.

This is a photo of me wearing new room shoes, which is a Christmas present from Derek. I just remembered we went shopping together before and I saw this shoes and said I really like it. He must have remembered it. It is really nice and warm inside and what is more, I love this red so much! So I have been so happy just walking in a house with my new buddy. Chester won't chew them. Never....

Broken China Cup Earrings

Lately I purchased this beautiful earrings by my friend, Vicky. She is a really creative person who is a movie art staff, and does paintings, stained glass, and more.
This earrings are made out of broken china cup. So each piece has unique shape and one of a kind, and really light. As you can see this photo, each piece goes into one big piece when put them together.

These earrings are available at Vicky & Patsy's in Saint John City Market. Also my origami earrings are available thier store.

Crown Princess

Every year on cruise ship season, I have many chances to meet people from all over the world through my market at Loyalist Plaza. Last year I met Darrel from Hawaii who is a trumpeter and director of the band in a cruise ship, Crown Princess. He came back in Saint John this year again, and he told me that next time he is back here, he can give a tour in the cruise ship to me and my boyfriend. He came back again last week, and we went in this cruise ship!! I never imagined what it's like inside the cruise ship even though Darrel told me it's like floating hotel. Now I know, it is like a HOTEL. It got 19 floors which I think taller than tallest building in Saint John. There are restaurants, bar, casino, movie theatre, swimming pools, spa, shops, library, ... you name it. Thanks to Darrel, we had a great experience in a cruise ship and really hoped someday we could get in a cruise ship as passengers and go somewhere.

Thank you very much, Darrel. We are so appreciate everything!!

Chester The Jack Russell

Hi! It's been a little bit over a month, but I am happy to announce that I am proudly dog owner now!! This little puppy was born on June 20th, and me and my boyfriend, Derek welcomed him on August 21st, which he was 8 weeks old. We named him Chester after the street name Derek grew up on. He is pure Jack Russell and has full of energy and got such a sweet character. Our life style has changed so much in a good way, and we have been having so much fun with him.
I go to Loyalist Plaza to have my market on cruise ship days, and I have been taking Chester with me there to socialize to people and other animals. He is waiting to see you down there!!
This is a picture of me and Chester on first day together. He was a bit nervous and looked miss his mom and sister.

Crochet Cacti

It already past more than half way of August. Everytime I have time off, I get perfect weather and I wish we could have longer summer. Last two days, me and Derek went a beach near from our house and stayed there for a half day enjoying swimming and making bubbles for kids around us, haha. Even though I put lots of sunscreen, it doesn't really work for me and I'm really dark and Derek calls me chocolate. And even though nice and hot sunny weather, I love HOT coffee and I love chochet.

Here is my new crochet work, ''Crochet Cacti''!!
You can use them as pin cushions or just display them in a sunny pot. Most great thing of these are that you don't need to worry about watering and always look cute!

Please visit Here to see more picture of my crochet work!

New Brunswick Day

Wow, it has been a month since updated last time and now it's already August. I've been working hard to catch up my products for coming fall/winter, but I have also been really enjoying myself playing in a beach, working in my garden, taking a tons of photographs outside. Because you know, summer is short, specially here, too short.
Anyways, I had a market inside of the Saint John City Market. I had had some markets before right outside or entrance area of the market, but actually it was my first time trying out this inside. In fact, I really loved it!! Not only I was given big space, but also able to display so much better compare to set up outside because I don't need to worry about rain or wind. There is another opportunity, I'd love to try again.
I should have written this first, but today was provincial holiday ''New Brunswick Holiday'' and Saint John City Market was opened 9am to 4pm and also there ware outside flee market going on around uptown area.

I will have market next Wednesday in Loyalist Plaza. I will see you there!!

Happy Canada Day 2009!!

How old is Canada??
Canada Day is celebrated on July 1; it marks the anniversary of the enactment of 1 July, 1867, which united Canada as a single country. So, as of July 1, 2009, Canada is 142 years old.

There were many events such as parade, outside markets, fireworks and more in Saint John as well. I joined this Canada's celebration as one of outside market vendors. I set up my table right outside of Saint John Market and enjoyed this day as a part of Canadian community.

My Happy Customer

I had my market set up right outside of Saint John City Market yesterday, July 1st, Canada Day. She is one of my customers I had and looks absolutely cute with my hat!! I hope she will enjoy with it all year around.

If you would like to see more pictures of my customers, please visit Here.
I would like to let my customers send me picture of you with my hat on and also let me know how you like your hat. Please give me an email to

Smelt Nanban

Once in a while, or maybe more I do crave a Japanese food. One day I really craved fish, specially row fish, so I went market to look for fresh Atlantic Salmon. I love Atlantic Salmon. They have kinda sweet taste in it and melt in your mouth. And then fish that something look familiar caught in my eyes. It's smelt!! I didn't know I can get smelt in Canada, but Derek told me that people go ice fishing and can get smelt this time of season. I didn't know if Derek is going to like it, but I made it anyways.

First, slice carrot, cucumber and onion as shown and mix them up and add vineger and suger and little bit salt. Then put flour on the smelt and fried them in a pan. Now enjoy eating smelt and seasoned vegitable together.

This smelt nanban reminds me of family supper time in Japan. My mom used to make this and we loved it.
I really can't wait to go back home.

Almost there? Not quite yet...

It's been a while... I have been a sick for about two weeks. As usual, Derek got a cold first and then cold comes to me next. It's so hard to prevent from catching a cold in this time of the season even though you try not to. My crazy stuffed nose bugged me so much and finally caused a ear infection. Now I feel like my body is drugged up from taking anti-biotics and even smell this pill all the time somewhere from my body. But I'm getting so much better. Health is always No.1!!
So now except working day, I have been taking easy at home. Specially in the morning, I bring couch to the dining area where I can get some fresh air and sunshine through the bay windows, and just lay down on it and think nothing. Then I started working on my winter project again. I made this piece in this picture which took me over a hour to finish. It's less than ten pieces to go, then I'm gonna stich them together. I still can't tell you what it's gonna be like... Wait and see...

Origami Earrings

Origami means "paper folding" in Japanese. The crane is one of the most well-known origami figures. It's said that 1000 cranes make a wish come true. 1000 cranes are givien to sick people in order to wish them a fast recovery. The forlded crane is also a symbol for peace.

My origami earrings are available in a Saint John City Market as well as through online. They are perfect accessories for your kimono, any Western clothing as well.. I use 1.47'' × 1.47'' square origami paper to make tiny crane, balloon, and bunny. As a crane, the paper is folded eighteen times for these special earrings. The origami figures are varnished to make them water-resistant and more durable.

Happy Valentine's Day

How was your Valentine? I was off my work that day and my boyfriend was supposed to work, but he got sick and took his day off. So we couldn't do a whole lots, but at least we were together. He spent most of the morning in a bed, but I put a book on the left side of the couch where he usually sits on as a Valentine's gift. The book is called ''BJ PENN Mixed Martial Arts The Book Of Knowledge'' since he is so into MMA and he also does it. He totally didn't look good, but he came to the living room and found this book and smiled. This is our 4th Valentine, we are happy to be together...

We seem to have lots of snow this year or maybe we just feel so because this is our first year own the house and we have to shovel snow in a driveway every time it snows. Since I came to Canada, I have been making snowman every winter and I thought I have to do that again this year, but snow is either too hard or too flaffy to make snowman. Then Derek goes, ''Why don't we make igloo?'' I said ''Igloo? How? Wow! Can we do that??'' We piled up snow in the same spot and made it bigger and bigger, and then waited a day to make sure it's hard enough to start digging a hole. We did well!! It's tall enough for me to sit down and deep enough to lay down. I've heard inside of the igloo is warm, and it was right!! Winter activity like this make winter go fast. We are going back to work again to make this igloo even bigger...
Please go visit Flickr to see more pictures.

New Luggage

Even though we had another crazy snow storm and I had to shovel the tons of snow in a driveway after coming back from work, this winter might not be so bad. My mind is all thinking of my home country, Japan. When something exciting is waiting for you, it vanishes all craziness around. This is like my childhood when mom told me to eat vegetables otherwise I won't get dessert.

I have a lavender colored luggage for about ten years and I traveled Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, France, Australia, and Canada with it. My buddy is beaten up so bad and besides it's pretty heavy. It's ready to retire. Still all my good memories are inside of it. So today I purchased my new luggage in a shopping mall. I knew that it's going for sale and today is the last day for it. Yes, 65% off!! I was there for more than an hour just to find a right one comparing one to another since I learned that I need a big but light luggage. I'm so happy about the fact new one is bigger and much lighter. I'm going back home soon...

Licca's Winter Project *Little Progress*

Remember the previous post Licca's Winter Project ??

This winter I started project for me. I crochet a lots, but I don't really wear or use my crochet work. So this is one big project for me!! Compare to last picture, I made a little progress, but might be a little behind the schedule. I have to work on more often so that I can get this done by spring... Oh wait, it seems like I have enought time?? We are in middle of winter and feel like winter never over. I hope not.

Anyways, I will keep working on this, and keep you update.

Winter beauty

Last Saturday, we went to Kingston to look for winter beauty, which is about 20 minutes drive and about 5 minutes by taking small ferry from Saint John. It seems like every week, but we have some crazy snow storm, then freezing rain, which is not good for transportation, but nature world is making winter beauty around us. It's absolutely amazing.

We took ferry to pass by Saint John river, but river was all covered by ice except the place where ferry was running. We saw some people just walking on the ice, some people enjoying four wheel, skido, and some people ice fishing. Then we stopped the car on the side of the road, and started exploring around. Look how big these icecles are in this picture!! My boyfriend, Derek told not to so many time, but I was so amazed by these beauty and tried to see icecles from underneath. Too dangerous?? Anyways, we had a so much fun just watching these natural beauty even though it was cold out.

Please click here to see more Winter Beauty pictures.

Winter Hat & Scarf

Wow, we had a another snow storm last night. It turned out to be freezing rain and rain... We seem to have this pattern in this winter. It's pretty outside though.

This is a winter hat and a scarf that I made lately. Using thick and soft yarn, it gives you extra warmness around your head and neck.

knit one, purl one...

I crochet. I don't knit. I mean I don't really know how to knit. But I have always been interested in leaning how to knit ever since I started crochet so that I can expand my creation range. Today one of my friends, Jeanntte came over my house and taught me basics on knitting. First I thought a little complicated, but I think I will be able to do make some fun stuff once I get hung of it. So far my near future goal is to make baby beanies. So so excited!!

Reading a book over a cup of coffee

To be honest, I have never owned bookmarks in my entire life. Sounds like I never read books?? Yeah, I'm not a big reader, but finally yesterday I bought my first bookmark as you can see in this picture. It's nice bright orange which is my favorite color, and a word ''inspire'' is on it. Who ever thought I'm going to work in a book store before... but I'm actually working in a book store now and enjoying working a lot even though I haven't had much knowledge in books. I decided to start reading as many as books possible when I started working and I am still trying to ready everyday with a cup of coffee and with dictionary in my hand. Reading is not too bad... Now I'm reading ''The Pursuit of Happyness'' by Chris Gardner.
If you have something you recommend, let me know. I will keep them in my mind.

Granny's Square Scarf

Since last week, we have been having crazy weather. Temperature dropped to almost minus 30, and we had a super snow storm, and then... freezing rain next. Outside right now is pretty messy and slushy. This morning I had to drive my boyfriend to work, and I saw two accidents during this short period of time. On the other hand, I found some winter beauty in my around. Trees are covered with ice and shining like jewerly. Icicles are hunging down from light fixture outside and I couldn't stop staring them.
This is a picture of my handmade work, ''Granny's Square Scarf'' that I had a order lately. Now this cozy warmy thing is going to customer's neck to keep her warm. I hope she enjoys this in this Canadian winter.

I'm going back to Japan!

Yes, it's almost 100% confirmed. I'm going back to Japan with Derek. I haven't seen my family and friends for three years and now I'm so happy and excited!! Fortunately we get time off from work for about a month, so we are going there from April 23th to May 20th. It's pretty much same time as we went three years ago. I think we are going to miss cherry bloosom, but still I love spring time in Japan. I'm from Miyazaki which is south island of Japan, so we are going back to my hometown right away after ariving in Tokyo. Then stay with my family and friends for a while, we are plannnig to travel toward Tokyo, and come back here again.

This is a picture of Tokyo tower I took last time we visited in Japan, and I won award in Esquire magagine in Japan.
We already can't wait to go back!! Right now, Derek is leaning Japanese using Nintendo DS ''My Japanese Coach'' and he already made so much progress!!

Licca's Toques

Not only it's winter, but you want something warm you up and plus stylish!! I'm happy to introduce my handmade crochet toques. They are available in different colors and different type of flower. I can customize your toque just for you!! Last two years, I have sold more than 500 toques to people from all around the world, including in Canada, US, Europe, Asia, and more.

Me and Calligraphy

As a Japanese, we start leaning Japanese in school including Hiragana and Katakana, which is fifty each, and Kanji which you see in this picture and is more than 5000 character and it is said that you will need to know at least 1945 to read Japanese newspaper.
Language is a tool to communicate to people, to write a note, etc., but it's not all about this. Actually we consider it art. I started leaning Japanese calligraphy when I was five years old. I still remembered the day I had school trip and at the end of the day, I was all happy and ready to go home. But my mom picked me at kindergarden and instead going back to home, she sent me a calligraphy class. I was so shocked and I didn't like it all. From that day, I ended up going to class every Sundays. But you know..., now I really appreciate what my parents gave me...., oppotunity to learn and understand our culture and I'm proud of introducing our part of culture in Canada. Oh by the way, they are picture of my calligraphy clay magnet. Each character is handwritten by me using acrylic paint. I can make whatever the words you want, so give me a message if you are interested. You can also check my facebook group ''Licca's Japanese Calligraphy''.

Looooong Scarf

It is something I made lately. It's simple cozy warmy thing called looooong scarf. I have only done double crochet, which is really simple, but this beautiful mixed colored fluffy yarn made it just stand out by itself.
So far this year I feel it has been great winter compare to last year. It's cold, but not crazy... maybe not crazy yet. I just can't believe that I'm getting used to this weather, winter wonderland, Canada!!

Click Here(Scarf) to see more pictures of this scarf.

This is what you can do with this neckwarmer! Just wrap around your neck with this neckwarmer and either put this together with flower pin or button up togther.
This is absolutely one of a kind and I put detail in it. As you can see, purple, light green, and gold beads ball in the flower. You can check more pictures of this neckwarmer in Handmade.
